Volontany

The new album by the prince of the valiha, ‘Volontany’, is full of the sun of Madagascar and the astounding energy of the island’s first musical ambassador. Playing the national symbol, the bamboo zither or valiha, like no other (the beautifully acoustic ‘Hafatra’) Rajery sings of his ancestors, of love, hope and mankind. His music is a rich blend of the traditional salegy blues, dance rhythms, polyphonic a cappella singing (the uplifting ‘Viavy’ full of allegorical poetry) and modern harmonies (the very catchy ‘Tsy Menatra’). An irresistible recipe that gets you swaying with a smile on your face no matter the weather.
